Andrew Carpenter - Business Development Director for Constructing Excellence

Chair of Judges
With responsibility for Marketing, PR, Publications, Communications and Membership. Before joining CE Andrew held a variety of posts within the CRH Group covering Sales, Marketing, PR, Best Practice Management, Commercial Management, Event Management and Networking. Despite only being with CE for a year, Andrew was involved with the construction industry improvement agenda from the days of the 'Egan Report' both in terms of setting up one of the earliest and mose successful 'Best Practice' clubs in the UK in Bristol and by taking his company at the time, Forticrete Ltd, through a two year 'Change Management Programme'. This led him to being asked to join the Board of CE in 2003 and eventually joining them full time in February 2006. In his spare time Andrew treads the boards with the Frome Operatic Society, is a season ticket holder at Southampton and a part time DJ!

Mike Conway - Director, Camargue PR

Mike is a Director of Camargue, one of the UK's leading communications agencies for property and the built environment. Mike has more than 18 years experience in managing integrated communications programmes for construction related organisations in a diverse range of disciplines in the private and public sectors. These include planning, architecture, construction, engineering, facilities management and consultancy. In addition to devising and implementing PR and marketing communications campaigns, Mike has particular experience in reputation management, planning support, regeneration, bid support and change management.

Andrew Davidson - Partner, Paul Davis + Partners

An Architect with over 20 years of experience, Andrew is responsible for leading and co-ordinating the business development and marketing activities of a successful London based practice, with an international portfolio of award winning work.

Experienced in the marketing of professional consultancy services, Andrew also takes a keen interest in the development and promotion of products, services and completed building projects throughout the construction industry.

Ian Exall, Head of Marketing, H + H Celcon

Ian has worked within sales and marketing in the construction industry for 21 years, starting out at as a management trainee in the scaffolding sector. After 6 years of sales and marketing of scaffolding hire and sales, Ian moved onto building materials including architectural ironmongery, flat roofing and aircrete building products. Ian has been with H+H Celcon for the past 10 years where he is the head of marketing.

Ian is a Chartered marketer and has been a member of Chartered Institute of Marketing’s Construction Industry Group (CIMCIG) for around 11 years. Last October Ian became its chairman.

David Howse, Operations Director –
CRM, Maxima Holdings Plc.

David has almost 30 years’ experience of sales, marketing and business development. Over the last 8 years he has been responsible for a team of professionals advising, implementing and supporting the implementation of CRM (Customer Relationship Management), marketing and business development best practice and supporting systems in the Construction and Building Products Industry. Previously he held a series of roles in both marketing and business development for companies operating in the automotive, industrial and construction sectors.

Anna Hutton-North – Internal Communications, KPMG

Anna has worked within marketing for over 14 years in a variety of industries. Her roles have included Head of Marketing at MITIE Group plc, Head of Marketing for Carillion Business Services; E-Manager at Reuters and Communications Consultant for Barclays Bank. She has an MBA from Henley Management College, where she specialised in strategic frameworks. Anna is a Committee Member of CIMCIG.

Jo Larkin – Marketing Manager, SIG Specialist
Construction Products

With more than 6 years in the construction marketing field, Joanne has progressed to Marketing Manager at global distributor SIG, working for the company's fastest growing division, Specialist Construction Products (SCP). She leads the marketing function, implementing strategies to co-ordinate the communications of around 20 brands, including the the re-brand of the corporate identity.

With a BCom and MSc in Management under her belt, Joanne's construction marketing career began at steel manufacturer Corus in 2002, where she headed up the marketing of key Corus projects. Previously, Joanne gained a strong grounding in market research, with a year’s experience as a Project Manager in marketing research consultancy.

Joanne has a strong background, extensive knowledge with a focused passion for Marketing and is currently working towards Chartered Marketer status.

Sue Moore, Strategic Development Director, Rok plc

Currently Strategic Development Director on the board at Rok, Sue has responsibility for Brand, Marketing, national sales, communications, business strategy and HR. Sue has 30 years of experience in brand, product and service development and communication. She started her career as a Brand Manager at Unilever and moved to British Airways shortly after privatisation. At BA she held positions in Brand Management, Relationship Marketing, Corporate Strategy, and Culture Change. She joined Rok in late 2004.

Nick Moss - Managing Director, Walnut Management

Nick Moss has 25 years experience in the construction industry in senior marketing and product development roles, primarily in building product manufacturing. After a career which encompassed a number of product sectors including roofing, building services, cladding & curtain walling, windows, structural metal products and glazing, Nick set up a strategic marketing consultancy, Walnut Management, in 1999. His core business is the strategic development of companies serving UK construction and he now acts as a catalyst of change, a facilitator and a project manager for some of the largest manufacturing groups in Europe. His unique understanding of the market brings a new dimension to strategic and commercial planning processes. Nick is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing.

Simon O’Hea - Marketing Director, Colt International Ltd

Simon is Marketing Director at Colt, the provider of ventilation, comfort control and solar shading systems, which is his family’s business. His earlier work with the company centred on quality management, strategy and business planning, and new product development. Simon has a first degree in classics from Oxford University and an MBA from Bradford University when he specialised in marketing. He is also a Director of the Building Services Research and Information Association (BSRIA).

Rick Osman - Marketing Director, Highwire Design

After a career as a journalist, editor and publisher Rick was invited to join an architectural practice which wanted to extend its skills into design and marketing for the construction industry. Working throughout the construction supply chain, from product inventors through suppliers, consultants and contractors to international construction clients, Rick well understands how websites and other marketing materials must be created so as to enable companies to achieve their business objectives.

Ross Sturley – Chart Lane

Ross is Principal at Chart Lane, a strategy consulting practice specialising in construction and property. Ross' background has mainly been in media companies, most recently as head of strategy for Emap Construct, publishers of Construction News, and organisers of Interbuild. As well as eight years in construction and property, other b2b media experience has included hospitals, nursing, pharmaceuticals, science and retail. Ross is also a non-executive Director at World Architecture News, the leading global website; and has been an active committee member of CIMCIG for over five years.

Hayley Yule MSc DipM  - IHS

Passionate about marketing with a Marketing MSc, Hayley’s current role draws on 13 years marketing experience gained from a range of industry sectors, the last 5 years of which have been focused on the UK construction market.   As Director – UK Product Marketing at IHS her team supports a portfolio of products positioned in the UK including Health and Safety, Rail and Construction. IHS is a leading edge supplier of BSi British Standards, Standards, Regulations, Product and Supplier Information to 7 core industries worldwide including Construction/Engineering, Aerospace/Aviation, Government/Defence, Health & Safety and Environment, Food & Drink, Energy, Rail/Transport.
